Finding my Muse

The Kiss of the Muse by Paul Cezanne

Whenever I feel like writing I think about the purpose of why I'm writing. What am I writing? Is it a poem or short story? Who is it for? Most of my writings stem from what I see or experience wether it's going on a walk through a nature trail or spending the day with my friends. Often I would sit back and put on some music and just start writing what I visualize from the lyrics. However, I find myself writing anywhere as long as I feel comfortable but, I feel most free in my room. Why?

  • There's no one to interrupt me
  • My mind is free to wonder
  • I feel free
To start my writing process I would sit down in a chair or my bed, put on some music, and think of a story. I ask myself "what do I feel?"" Who am I writing for?" Poetry to me is more than love notes that you pass to your crush, it is verbal freedom. In a way writing is like an intense conversation that you are having with yourself or others. To me the best time to write is when I can't sleep at night and time seems to go on forever. In a way writing helps me sleep during those sleepless nights because I am able to put my thoughts on paper.
