Final Blog Post

After taking this course I learned about the different forms of poetry and how they can affect readers. To me personally poetry takes on many forms of media such as music, digital and fine arts, and cinema. I didn't really understand the purpose of writing poetry except for one trying to express themselves and I didn't realize how much of an impact poetry had when trying to deliver a message about different problems that certain communities must face. Learning about the different forms of poetry also puts into perspective the mindset other artist and poets have when coming up with their own poetry.

Given what I've learned about the last 100 years or so I'd say the role of an artist today is to inspire and bring people together as one through an expressive art form.

Red Raven

No pestilence had ever been so fatal, or so hideous.
The scarlet stains upon the body and especially upon the face

Here was a sharp turn at every twenty or thirty yards, and each turn a novel effect.
The panes here were scarlet --a deep blood color.

While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping,
As of some one gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door.

And the silken, sad, uncertain rustling
Thrilled me—filled me with fantastic terrors never felt before

Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there wondering, fearing,
Doubting, dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream before

One by one dropped the revelers in the blood-bedewed halls of their revel
Bore aloft a drawn dagger, and had approached, in rapid impetuosity

Open here I flung the shutter, when, with many a flirt and flutter,
In there stepped a stately Raven of the saintly days of yore

Bird or beast upon the sculptured bust above his chamber door,

            With such name as “Nevermore.”

Swept Under- Final Presentation

Currents, thoughts, currents
Swimming, floating, swimming

Swimming, swimming, swimming
Breathe, stroke, breathe, stroke

Swimming, swimming, swimming
Thinking, contemplating, wondering

Swimming, floating, swimming
Forgetting, Remembering, Forgetting

Swimming, swimming, swimming
Rest, swim, rest, swim

Swimming, splashing, gasping
Gurgle, gurgle, gurgle

Gasping, sinking, drowning
Gurgle, gurgle, gurgle

Sinking, drowning, dying
Think, panic, think, panic

Thinking, panicking, dying
Swim, fight, swim

Thinking. STOP THINKING! SWIM!
SWIMMING, SWIMMING, SWIMMING

Gasping, breathing, gasping
Gasping, wheezing, panting

Gasping, inhaling, choking
Wheezing, exhaling, gasping

Free, safe, free
Thoughts, currents

I'm OK

Darkness
conceals the
pain
The pain
of losing
what we hold dear
We hide in the
shadows so others
don't see us cry
Saying everything is
ok Although it's a lie
You stand tall
 head strong
feeling as if
the end
is nigh
No one
realising
deep
down
every
thing
is
     NOT ok

Found Poem

Take this kiss upon the brow
And, in parting from you now,
Thus much let me avow --
You are not wrong, who deem
That my days have been a dream;

For the night -- tho' clear -- shall frown --
And the stars shall look not down,
From their high thrones in the Heaven,
With light like Hope to mortals given --
But their red orbs, without beam,
To thy weariness shall seem
As a burning and a fever
Which would cling to thee for ever :

But evil things, in robes of sorrow,
   Assailed the monarch's high estate.
(Ah, let us mourn!- for never morrow
   Shall dawn upon him desolate!)
And round about his home the glory
   That blushed and bloomed,
Is but a dim-remembered story
   Of the old time entombed.

I stand amid the roar
Of a surf-tormented shore,
And I hold within my hand
Grains of the golden sand --
How few! yet how they creep
Through my fingers to the deep,
While I weep -- while I weep
